Orange stains. Rotten-egg smell. Sand in the aerators. Each one has a different fix.

Filtration only works when it’s matched to what’s actually in your well. We test first, then build the treatment train in the right order — sediment, iron and sulphur, softening, then polishing — so nothing downstream gets ruined by what should have been removed upstream.

Upfront pricing. You approve the flat price before any work starts.

  • Free diagnosis, and a $45 service call on weekdays.
  • 10-year warranty on major parts on our maintenance program.

Self-diagnose first

Match the symptom to the equipment

This is the whole game. The wrong filter on the right problem is money gone.

Orange or rust staining in sinks, tubs and laundry

Iron. Above modest levels it needs an oxidizing iron filter — typically air injection — installed ahead of the softener, not a softener on its own.

This week

Rotten-egg smell, worst from the hot tap

Hydrogen sulphide gas, or sulphur bacteria in the well or the water heater. Air injection oxidation handles most of it; heavier cases need chlorination with carbon behind it.

This week

Black or grey staining and specks

Manganese, often riding along with iron. Same family of oxidizing filter, different media selection.

Scheduled

Sand, grit or cloudy water after the pump runs

Sediment. A spin-down plus cartridge stage protects everything behind it — softener, heater, fixtures — and it’s the cheapest stage in the train.

This week

Failed bacteria test, or a boil-water advisory on the well

Shock chlorination to deal with what’s there, then a UV system for continuous protection. Retest afterwards.

Emergency

Yellow or tea-coloured water

Tannins from organic matter in the ground. A specific tannin resin, which is a different animal from a softener.

What you get either way

No surprises, in writing, before we start.

Diagnosis is free

Finding the fault costs you nothing. You get the answer whether or not you go ahead.

$45 weekday service call

That’s the whole call-out charge Monday to Friday. Evenings, nights and weekends carry a higher rate — you’re told the number before we book.

Upfront flat-rate pricing

One price for the job, agreed before the work begins. No hourly meter running while you watch.

10-year warranty on major parts

Ten years on major parts for customers on our maintenance program — plus the manufacturer’s warranty on equipment.

Scope of work

The treatment train, in order

Stage by stage

  • Sediment — spin-down and cartridge filtration
  • Iron, manganese and sulphur — air injection oxidizing filter
  • Hardness — correctly sized softener
  • Bacteria — UV disinfection
  • Taste and odour — carbon
  • Drinking water — reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink

Why order matters

  • Sediment ahead of everything, or you shred valves
  • Iron removal before the softener, or the resin fouls
  • UV last, on water that’s already clear
  • RO after softening, so membranes last
  • Bypasses at every stage for service
  • Sized to your flow so pressure doesn’t drop
Three steps

How it goes

Test, don’t guess

On-site hardness, iron and odour assessment, plus a look at what your existing equipment is doing. If a lab panel is warranted, we’ll say so.

You get a staged plan and one price

What each stage removes, what it costs to run, and what you can defer. If you only want the staining gone this year, we’ll build toward the rest.

Installed, flushed, and retested

We flush the system, confirm the result at the tap, and set your service intervals so the filters actually get changed.

FAQ

Filtration questions

Where can I get my well water tested?
For bacteria, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit offers free E. coli and total coliform testing through Public Health Ontario labs, with bottles available at seven locations including Barrie and Cookstown. That testing does not cover chemicals or minerals — for hardness, iron and sulphur we test on site, and for a full chemical panel you’d use a private licensed lab.
How often should I test my well?
Test after any work on the well, after flooding or heavy spring runoff, if the taste, smell or colour changes, and on a regular schedule otherwise — the health unit recommends making it part of your spring routine at minimum. Seasonal and cottage properties should always test before drinking again.
Why won’t a softener fix my iron staining?
A softener is built to remove hardness. It can handle only modest iron, and iron-heavy water progressively fouls the resin, which is why softeners on untreated well water lose capacity early. Iron and sulphur come out first, in a dedicated oxidizing filter.
What gets rid of the rotten-egg smell?
Air injection oxidation removes hydrogen sulphide in most cases. If sulphur bacteria are established in the well or water heater, that gets addressed too — otherwise the smell walks straight back. Heavier concentrations use chlorination followed by carbon.
Does UV make my water safe to drink?
UV continuously inactivates bacteria as water passes through, but it only works on water that’s already clear — sediment and iron shield organisms from the lamp. That’s why UV goes last in the train, and why the lamp and sleeve need annual service.
Do I need reverse osmosis for the whole house?
Rarely. RO is best at one drinking-water tap for taste, nitrates and dissolved solids. Whole-house problems — staining, odour, scale, sediment — are solved more cheaply and with better flow by the right whole-house stages.
What does it cost to get someone out?
Diagnosis is free — finding the fault costs you nothing. There is a $45 service call on weekday visits. Evenings, nights and weekends carry a higher call-out rate, and you’ll be told that number when you book, not after. Once we know what’s wrong you get one flat price for the repair, and nothing starts until you approve it.
What does the 10-year warranty cover?
Major parts are warrantied for 10 years for customers on our maintenance program — keeping the system serviced is what makes that coverage possible, so the program is a condition of it. Equipment also carries its manufacturer’s warranty. Ask us what the program includes and what it costs before you decide.

Know what’s in it first.

We test, then recommend only the stages your well actually needs.
