Well water here runs 15 to 30+ grains hard. Your kettle already told you.

Scale on the fixtures, soap that won’t lather, water heaters that die early. We test your hardness, size the softener to your household’s real water use, and install it properly — including the iron-tolerant resin that well water needs.

Upfront pricing. You approve the flat price before any work starts.

What hard water is doing in your house

These aren’t cosmetic complaints. Each one has a running cost attached.

White crust on the kettle, taps and shower head

Calcium and magnesium precipitating out. The same deposit is forming inside your pipes and inside your water heater, where you can’t see it.

Scheduled

Soap and shampoo won’t lather

Hardness minerals bind the soap before it can foam. Most households on softened water cut their detergent use noticeably.

Scheduled

Spotty, filmy dishes out of the dishwasher

Dried hardness residue. No rinse aid fixes water chemistry.

Scheduled

Water heater whines, rumbles, or died young

Scale insulating the bottom of the tank. A hard-water tank in this area can lose years off its life and burn more gas or hydro the whole time.

This week

Existing softener isn’t softening any more

Salt bridging in the brine tank, a stuck control valve, resin fouled by iron, or a unit that was undersized from day one. Often a service call, not a replacement.

This week

Dry, itchy skin and dull laundry

Hardness residue left in fabric and on skin. It’s the change people notice first after installation.

Scope of work

Sizing and installation

How we size it

  • Free hardness test on your actual water
  • Iron reading — it changes the resin choice
  • Household size and real daily water use
  • Grain capacity matched to a sensible regeneration cycle
  • Metered demand valves, not timer-only units
  • Bypass and hose bib planning so you keep hard water outside

What the install includes

  • Softener, brine tank and valve set correctly
  • Iron-tolerant resin where the well needs it
  • Proper drain and overflow connections
  • Bypass valve so you’re never stuck
  • Programming walked through with you
  • Service on most existing brands, not just what we sell
Three steps

How it goes

We test your water, free

Hardness and iron, on site. Nothing gets recommended before we know the numbers, because iron in the water changes which unit is correct.

You get a size, a price and the reasoning

Grain capacity, how often it will regenerate, roughly how much salt that means per month, and one flat installed price.

Installed, programmed, and explained

We set it, show you how to check the salt, and leave the settings written down. You’ll notice the difference within a day of laundry.

FAQ

Softener questions

How hard is well water around Alliston and Barrie?
Private wells across this part of Ontario commonly test 15–30+ grains per gallon, which is in the “very hard” range. Individual wells vary a lot, though — two neighbours can read quite differently, which is why we test rather than assume.
What size water softener do I need?
Multiply your hardness by your household’s daily water use, then pick a grain capacity that regenerates every few days rather than daily. In practice most local family homes land on a 40,000–64,000 grain unit because the hardness here is high.
Will a softener get rid of the rotten-egg smell or the orange stains?
Not on its own, and this is the most common mistake we’re called to fix. A softener handles hardness and only modest amounts of iron. Rotten-egg odour and orange staining need a dedicated iron and sulphur filter ahead of the softener — putting iron-heavy water through a softener alone will foul the resin.
Will my water taste salty?
No. The salt stays in the brine tank and is used to rinse the resin; it doesn’t go into your drinking water. Softened water does carry a small amount of added sodium, which is why many homes keep one unsoftened cold tap at the kitchen sink.
How much salt will it use?
A correctly sized metered unit on very hard well water typically wants topping up every few weeks. Undersized units regenerate constantly and eat salt, which is one more reason sizing matters.
Do you service softeners you didn’t sell?
Yes. Salt bridges, fouled resin, stuck valves and bad programming are routine service calls for us on most common brands.
What does it cost to get someone out?
Diagnosis is free — finding the fault costs you nothing. There is a $45 service call on weekday visits. Evenings, nights and weekends carry a higher call-out rate, and you’ll be told that number when you book, not after. Once we know what’s wrong you get one flat price for the repair, and nothing starts until you approve it.
What does the 10-year warranty cover?
Major parts are warrantied for 10 years for customers on our maintenance program — keeping the system serviced is what makes that coverage possible, so the program is a condition of it. Equipment also carries its manufacturer’s warranty. Ask us what the program includes and what it costs before you decide.
